Cindy Hutto welcomed everyone and called for approval of the August minutes, Doug Freer motioned to approve the minutes, seconded by Merv Mattair, approved.

Angelina Curtis with Madison Media Group is doing outreach for the Coalition.

Tonya Bell inquired if anyone had checked out the Whole Child Profile on the website www.tricountywholechild.com and encouraged everyone to do so. If you need assistance or have any questions contact Tonya at tbell@healthystartjmt.org or 850-253-5355.

Karen Pennington reported the Madison County Community Health Profile was now complete and distributed a copy to everyone.

Stephanie Doski is with Magellan Health which provides mental health care for members of the Florida's Medipass program through the Prepaid Mental Health Plan. Stephanie distributed informational handouts detailing Magellan's services and stated they do not cover substance abuse. Magellan works with the School systems and the Department of Juvenile Justice. CeCe Ellis reminded members that FDLRS offers developmental screenings for pre-school age children.

Merv Mattair stated his Boyz to Kings Program started out with 12 young men and he has since added 8 more to the group. They have 9 mentors/role models working with them and the program is progressing excellent. Merv stressed that parent involvement is essential.

Joseph Ward is the Sexual Violence Prevention Program Director with the Leon County Health Department. Joseph will be conducting training in our area. For more information contact Joseph at 850-606-8264 or Joseph_Ward@doh.state.fl.us.

Deveda Bellamy announced that Friday is Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day.

Cecilia Freer with the Department of Health has contracted with the Healthy Start Coalition to provide this year's Needs Assessment for Maternal and Child Health, which will be available soon to all Coalition members, posted on the Coalition's website.

Shawn Hamm is with Tri County Family Health Care in Greenville. The center provides many services and also takes care of the uninsured. Shawn said they are in the process of preparing a resource guide for their patients.

Octavious Tookes with Project Safe Zone reported they continue to work on bullying in the schools; they are encouraging parent engagement and reaching out to individuals and churches for help. They have two events coming up in October. October 12th is Unity Day for Madison County Schools, everyone is asked to wear orange that day, and also on the 29th is Run, Walk, Roll Against Bullying. Octavious said they are seeking volunteers for committees, if you would like to volunteer you may contact Octavious at 850-973-5054 ext 201 or Denise Robinson at 850-973-5192.

Gladney Cherry distributed flyers regarding Parent Workshops, workshops will be held every Tuesday night in October at the Madison County Central School media Center beginning at 6:00pm. ESE parents will receive a stipend. For more information contact Gladney at 850-973-5054 ext 204.

Tom Cisco is the Emergency Management Director for Madison County and said he has been looking for a way to connect people to services. There will be a meeting at 9:00am tomorrow at the center and Tom invited everyone to attend.

Linda Peacock with Guardian Ad Litem covers Madison and Taylor Counties and reported an increase in case loads involving sex crimes against children. The Agency is always in need of volunteers and provides free training. If you are interested in volunteering, or would like more information, contact 850-584-2159. Linda said they are starting “Tell a Teacher” campaign for pre- school and kindergarten age children.

Kathy Barrett with the Early Steps program reported they perform screenings to evaluate developmental delays in 0 to 3 year olds.

Craig Wilsonis the Program Manager for Madison and Jefferson County Healthy Start. The Healthy Start Program was created 25 years ago by Lawton Chiles. The Coalition funds the Jefferson, Madison and Taylor County Healthy Start programs. Craig stated that 2 years ago they went to the Parents as Teachers curriculum which is specifically tailored to each family.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on October 26, 2011 at 9:30 am.
